‘We’ll give it a right go’ – QPR boss Harry Redknapp confident ahead of play-offs

QPR boss Harry Redknapp says his side will head into the Championship play-offs confident of promotion.

Rangers claimed a 3-2 victory over relegated Barnsley at Oakwell on Saturday and Redknapp was delighted to head into the post-season programme with a bit of momentum.

“We made changes for obvious reasons, but I was pleased with the performance and the result,” Redknapp told the QPR official website.

“We were always comfortable and I was pleased to include a couple of youngsters in (Coll) Donaldson and (Michael) Petrasso, who did well.”

Summer signing Charlie Adam hit his 100 professional goal in English football as he continued to build up his fitness after injury.

“Charlie needed another 60 minutes or so,” Redknapp added.

“He was short of a gallop as they say in the racing world, so we gave him a game.

“He showed his quality again with the goal and that will do him the world of good.”

Redknapp’s side will now face Wigan in the play-offs as both sides challenge for a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The Latics finished one place below QPR and suffered a final day defeat to Blackburn, but the Rangers manager is not resting on his laurels.

“Wigan will be a tough game – they’re a very good side,” he said.

“Being at home in the second leg is important for us, but our only focus at the minute is on preparing for Friday at their place.

Brighton snatched a last-gasp goal at the City Ground to leapfrog Reading into the final play-off spot and will face Derby in the second play-off.

And the former Tottenham boss expects the form book to be tossed aside, with promotion ‘up for grabs’.

“Everyone will head into them confident of promotion, but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

“This league is so unpredictable as has been proven today, and I don’t see the play-offs being any different.

“It’s all up for grabs for us – we’re going to give it a right go.”
